Fourth Grade
Miss EmbreyAugust 30-September 3, 2010
Dear Parents,
Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! The ECA float and walkers looked good in the Heartland Festival Parade…even after being in the sweltering sun for two hours…whew! J
Since we will not have classes this Friday, the Spelling Test will be on Thursday (not Friday). When we have four-day weeks, we will cover a new list but will not have spelling homework on Wednesday (in line with usual schedule). Also, we will have three tests on Wednesday (regular Reading Test along with Language and Science tests).
Just a few academic notes:
n REPEAT: Please continue drilling on the math fact families (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
n REPEAT: Penmanship: Cursive handwriting is expected in the fourth grade; therefore, most work will require cursive (e.g. spelling list, history and science chapter checkup answers, reading worksheets, portfolio, Kentucky State Notebook, etc). At the beginning of each day, the students will either write a paragraph (3-4 sentences) about an object on display in the classroom or will practice on a penmanship worksheet. Again, this is not for a grade, but will be commented on the report card.
Friendly reminders:
n REPEAT: Field Trip: We may visit Fort Harrod in September or October. If you are interested in this particular field trip, please let me know. With our small class size, only 2-3 chaperones will be needed…but, the more, the merrier! I could drive (three students in the back seat), if needed. Hope to have more info the first week of September.
n REPEAT: Chapel: The Fourth Grade will be responsible for chapel on Oct 22. We will participate in this particular chapel, so please mark your calendars. Remaining chapel dates are Dec 10, Feb 4, Mar 18, and Apr 29.
n REPEAT: The fourth grade has PE on Monday-Thursday at 1:15-1:45. If you would like to send a “cool down” treat (e.g. ice cream sandwiches, popsicles, etc.) for them (8 students), please do. We have a large refrigerator that can store the treats.
n REPEAT: Since we have monthly fire drills, please have your child wear appropriate outdoor attire to school (mostly applicable during the winter months).
Have a great week!
In Christ, Miss Embrey
